PJ: The Titan’s Curse — Luke out for Kronos

So I have to say that we’re getting into some of the really good stuff here. Book three in the Percy Jackson series is one of my favorites (beaten out by book 5, tied with books 4 and 1). I love the introduction of Nico and Bianca, I love the Huntresses of Artemis, and I love the overall scope of this book’s quest specifically.

The idea of Percy sort of sneaking along, tagging onto a quest he’s technically not part of, is great. The tension is good too, that feeling that at any point something could (and eventually will) go terribly wrong.

I love the ever-evolving size of the story, how the antagonists are building something big behind the scenes that you can almost see. Luke’s continued danger and Annabeth’s continued back-and-forth between her friends (Percy, Grover, the camp, etc) and Luke (one of the few people she was able to grow close to) is done really well without being so heavy-handed.

I also want to give a shout out to two characters: Rachel, a girl Percy runs into and nearly kills (she forgives him) and Annabeth’s dad, who saves the day in a literal plane. Gods, I love these books.

No major spoiler talks this time around, but I do want to mention the two big deaths that happen in this book (you’ll know when you get to them). Big moments, well done. As always, I’m loving the dynamic between Percy and Annabeth.

Side note! This book is my mom’s favorite so far. She enjoyed it for a lot of the same reasons.

Onto the Labyrinth!
